Deacon Lawrence C. Houston
Through the intercessions of Fr. Thaddeus Posey, former director of Xavier University Institute of Black Catholic Studies, Deacon Houston found a home at Xavier, majoring in Music. He graduated in 1990 with a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance and in 2002 with a Master of Arts in Elementary Education with a concentration in Principalship. He found his soul mate; Erica M. Nealy and they married in May 1990, bringing into the world two children, Kyle Wesley and Kayla J’Net.
December 11, 2010 Lawrence C. Houston put on the stole of the Permanent Diaconate. His ordination class was the first Permanent Diaconate Ordination for Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He simply wants to be recognized as “ a Black Man trying to live for Jesus!” Deacon Houston’s interests are fishing, movies, thrifting, traveling, singing, preaching and educating young people in financial matters. He is currently assigned to St. Peter Claver Parish in New Orleans, LA and is the Vice-Principal for the parish school.
